Over 25 years as a creative, working with the biggest brands in the world, on some of the biggest stages Australia has ever seen.
In short, Nick is a detail focused creative who is driven to make cutting edge content for almost any purpose.. He loves to push the boundaries of design in its aesthetics and methodology, as well as the tools available. He’s always keen to collaborate and learn, developing his style through his own constant experimentation, with an eye on current trends and is always keen to learn new things from new people.
Here is a brief history of Nick’s working life…
After finishing school, he went straight into the digital media industry, diving into agency land using software like Macromedia’s Authorware, Director and Flash for the development of everything from warehouse management systems to games, eLearning and digital content.
At the same time, he was one of the first to study multimedia at Sydney's SAE, eventually earning an honours degree from Middlesex University in London. During his 'spare' time, he teamed up to launch a print magazine on electronic music culture; an associated radio show on Sydney's 2SER-FM; a record label; a touring agency and an event promotion company. All of which led to his discovery of VJing and live performance video.
Since his first VJ performance, Nick says he’s been addicted to live visual interpretation of aural experiences. From his early days in electronic music to his later specialisation in broken beats and hip hop, Nick strived to pay the music the respect it deserves by creating amazing video content. During his career he has played hundreds of shows, touring with artists like Mixmaster Mike, Snob Scrilla, Bliss n Eso, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Thundamentals and more recently Cult Shøtta. He’s also been fortunate enough to perform on behalf of a wide range of brands and organisations- including Adidas, Pacha, Oxfam, Q-Dance, Sydney Mardi Gras & Sleaze Ball, Ministry Of Sound, Big Day Out, Sydney Festival, Vodafone, Westfield and The Sydney Dance Company, to name a small selection.
In the mid-2000s, Nick also found himself riding the exciting new wave of video DJing in Australia, doing demos for the release of the Pioneer DVJ-X1 (a turntable for DVDs), as well as Serato’s Scratch Live Video SL (a software-based vinyl playback system for video). He later formed an experimental live video act with DJ Raine Supreme, called NTSC. They went on to support a string of US hip hop artists (such as Pharoahe Monch, Charli 2NA of Jurassic 5 and “the Godfather of Hip Hop”, Afrika Bambaataa), as well as performing customised live video sets for corporate brands like Blackberry and Jack Morton Worldwide. These days he regularly performs as a video DJ at concerts, events, clubs and bars, under the name VJ Spook.
